There are three holiday units attached to the main house: Bishops Well Cottage, Chained Heart Cottage and The Coach House.
Bishops Well Cottage sleeps 6+ in three bedrooms. It has been lovingly and sympathetically restored to retain a wealth of stone features and massive, whole-tree, chestnut beams (trees when the Pilgrim Fathers sailed).
The cottage is formed, in part, by an annex of the Manoir which constitutes the lounge and master bedroom above. The former boasts a magnificent slate and granite fireplace. A steep staircase from the lounge accesses the master bedroom, a beautiful sunlit room built into the roof to retain the king-post construction. It has a small mezzanine floor (useful for an extra mattress if required) and an ancient armoire- front amongst many features.
The kitchen, bathroom and two smaller double bedrooms are a modern conversion of a much humbler structure, the cow byre, built alongside the house. Nevertheless, the original beams, posts and roof structures have been retained. The kitchen is furnished as a breakfast room with a larger dining table located in the lounge. The bathroom has a shower cubicle (no bath) as well as the usual facilities.
The bedrooms are light and airy; the larger, equipped with two single beds, has a large lucarne window facing the front drive and garden whilst the other, with bunk beds, has a velux window overlooking the cherry orchard. The kitchen is well equipped and includes a dishwasher and fridge/freezer. There is a washing machine in the adjacent utility room.
Satellite TV, DVD and video are included.
Although attached to the main house, the cottages have their own completely separate and private entrances.
Bodion lies in 6 acres of private, peaceful grounds, mainly wooded lawns and orchard. Rougher pasture and untamed wilderness mark the outer limits with high oaks and sweet chestnuts along the boundary.
With the exception of a small dog enclosure, guests are invited to enjoy any part of the garden at their leisure, there being ample space to accommodate all tastes from peaceful reading and shady picnic spots to boisterous ball games. However, the areas to the rear of the cottages, with private access, and to the side of the Coach House, are exclusively reserved for their use.
A private barbecue and garden furniture; a grassed badminton/volleyball court; games room with pool table, table tennis, darts and table football; swings, slide and ball games are provided.
The pool lies to the rear of the cottages and is surrounded by oak, cherry and sweet chestnut trees and extensive areas of open, sunny lawn.
Although many of our guests have spent much of their holiday relaxing in the garden, Bodion is a perfect base from which to enjoy the many attractions which Morbihan offers; the peace and charm of the Blavet Valley with its sleepy villages and historic buildings, the south coast (45mins) with its beaches and water sports, the idyllic islets in the inland sea of the Golfe du Morbihan, walks in the ancient woods of Lac du Guerledan
For local amenities Bodion is approximately 15 mins from the historic town of Pontivy where you will find supermarkets, restaurants and shops. Plumeliau, a 5 minute drive, is our local village; a friendly place to buy bread and croissants and fresh oysters every Sunday morning. St Nicholas des Eaux (15 mins), a charming village on the Blavet River, offers two restaurants, creperies and bars as well as river cruises and kayaking.
These, with the chateaux, museums, restaurants and a steady passage of pardons, fetes and fest noz, will, we think, ensure a varied and enjoyable holiday for all the family.
The proprietors, Al and Marion Wilkinson, are resident on the property and at hand to ensure a smooth and trouble free holiday.
With advanced notice Marion is happy to provide delicious home-cooked evening meals, including one to welcome you if required. Together with their two daughters, Emma and Zoë, and friendly wolfhounds they extend a very warm welcome to you.
A private barbeque and garden furniture ;grassed badminton/volley ball court, mini gym and games room; swings and a variety of lawn games are provided.
Bed linen is provided and towels can be hired.
A welcome pack of tea, coffee, milk, sugar bread and wine is provided for your arrival and we are happy to shop for extra items you might want immediately.
